I am from Cypress, a suburb of Houston and NO ONE knows what I'm talking about when I say where I'm applying (Reed, Willamette, Kenyon, ect.), because of this I cant help but wonder how much of an advantage I might hold, being both Hispanic and from Texas. I guess what I'm asking is, do you know many Reedies from Texas and did people in your hometown know about Reed?

Approximately Literally zero people from my hometown knew about Reed, but I’ve found a lot more Texan Reedies here than I expected. One of my really good friends (spookeasy.tumblr.com if you wanna check her out (do it she’s rad as hell)) is from Dallas and I hadn’t met her until I got to Reed; there are a few others I’m aware of from that area, I can name a handful from Houston off the top of my head, and there are plenty from Austin.

So, I’d say you’re good! While there are admittedly a whole lot of white Californians here, diversity at Reed is very much A Thing, and you can find people from pretty much whatever background. As long as you’re passionate about being at Reed and make that apparent in your application, you definitely stand a good chance of getting in.
